Allopathy: Alternative medicine terms defined. Holistic health theories defined. |
Allopathy Modern allopathic medicine heals with the use of agents such as drugs or surgery. The theoretical basis of allopathic medicine is that a single agent causes a single type of disease (Pasteur's findings regarding infectious illness) and a specific therapy or surgery can be used to treat that disease. This is called the doctrine of specific etiology. This simple doctrine, the rapid symptom-relieving effects of synthetic drugs, and modern-day surgery concisely describe allopathic medicine. Allopathy is a term first coined by Samuel Christian Hahnemann to refer to mainstream medicine and to differentiate it from his creation of homeopathy. |
