ChakrasThe word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the body. Each of these centers correlates to major nerve ganglia branching forth from the spinal column and corresponds to and governs specific parts of the physical body. In addition the chakras correlate to levels of consciousness, elements, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, body functions, and more. These chakras, or energy centers, function as pumps or valves, regulating the flow of energy through our energy system. The physiological roles of the chakras are generally considered:
The root and belly chakras are related to generative and sexual functions. The solar plexus chakra is related to digestion. The heart chakra is related to the heart and circulation. The throat chakra is related to the lungs, voice, ears, nose, and throat. The third eye chakra is related to vision, the eyes, and the pituitary gland. The crown chakra is related to the brain and the pituitary and pineal glands.
