Living Alone and Loving It A Guide to Relishing the Solo Life
by Barbara Feldon
Feldon has not written an anti-relationship book. It is an upbeat view of setting aside romance for a time to enjoy loving ourselves while living alone.
In the midst of so many books about finding a partner to end being single, Barbara Feldon has written a book about relishing and taking advantage of your time as a single person. It is a refreshing and optimistic viewpoint for every single adult, whether divorced, widowed, or never married.
Feldon, an actress known as effervescent spy “99” on Get Smart, writes in an upbeat manner from her personal experiences. She also starts, as most single-again people do, with a fear of being alone. Once she understands she can be perfectly happy living alone, she creates this practical step-by-step guide to building happiness as a single person.
In a romantic society such as ours, most singles feel they are constantly pushed to find a soulmate, then get married and have children together. Feldon stresses that this is not for everyone while showing the reader, through personal examples, that being alone and being lonely are not the same thing.
She implores singles to:
Stop imagining that marriage is a solution for loneliness.
Nurture a glowing self-image that is not dependent on an admirer.
