Insurance might be required by the utility service provider if your system is connected to the grid. If not required, it might be desired. First ask your installation contractor about insurance requirements. If your contractor does not know, contact your insurance agent or provider directly. Once the solar panels and other equipment are connected to your home, they become real property. From that point on, they should be covered by your homeowners insurance. As soon as your system is attached to your roof or set in concrete on your property, it becomes real property and should be insured by your homeowner’s or property insurance. However, to make certain your homeowner’s insurance carrier will insure your renewable energy system and the coverage provided, contact your personal insurance agent.
