Families: There is no real secret to organizing--good books abound on the subject and the stores are full of organizing aids. About Families:
|
When I was growing up, my next-door neighbor's home was immaculate. You would open the closets and everything had a place. Even the organized drawers in the family-room desk looked like a picture from a magazine. Or at least I thought it was immaculate. I think now that it was organized as well as clean! Our home, on the other hand, had its share of clutter. Basically, my parents were probably not into organization--except for our camping "stuff." We all loved to camp. And we would pick up and go on the spur of the moment, so I guess we had to be organized in that realm of our life. My parents had all the family camping gear organized in the garage and ready to go at a moment's notice. If both of my parents had a free week-end, my family was off to the woods in a jiffy. My parents gave each of us a list of what personal items to bring camping with us. We were responsible for getting those items together and into a back pack--ready to go--in a short period of time. I think I learned my original organizing lesson from that list. First, I learned how miserable a camping week-end was when your shoes got wet and you forgot a second pair. Or you did not bring a jacket in April. But when I learned how much easier it was have all my camping items together and ready to go, that part of my life became organized. After a few such "lessons, I got organized. As much as I could, all my camping gear was in two "milk crates" in my closet for years. Organization is something that can benefit an entire family or anyone in a family. No more lost time looking for keys, school books, the salt shaker, the trash bags, or whatever. Vacations are easier; long week-ends are a breeze. It is so much easier on the whole family when everything has a place. |
