Gifts and the giving of gifts: There are traditions that center around wedding gifts.
|
Weddings are a joyful, hopeful time of life. We celebrate this event with
the giving of gifts as a tribute to the couple and to help them start their
life together.
Here are some general things to keep in mind when giving presents during the wedding and pre-wedding festivities. Bridal or Wedding Showers Although showers are often only for the bride, it is becoming more common to have a shower for the couple. Traditionally showers have been smaller parties that include close friends and family. It is an opportunity for family and friends to gather in a casual, or even formal, get-together. The host of the party specifies the kind of shower--a theme is often chosen.. Guests will usually bring gifts that center around the theme. Although it is customary to bring a shower gift, members of the wedding party and immediate family may find that financially impossible. If you can't afford it, just don't give it! Wedding Gifts Traditionally couples register for china, glassware, and other home-related gifts. They often register with two to three stores. You may or may not choose to give a gift from the registry. In fact, surprises as wedding gifts are generally appreciated by brides and grooms. When to Send the Gift The gift can be shipped or delivered as soon as the wedding invitation arrives or taken to the wedding itself. Cancelled Weddings If for some reason the wedding is cancelled, the gifts must be returned. |
