Keep in touch: grandparents share ways to stay close to their grandkids. Letters and emails from grandparents about grandchildren and how they develop closeness with grandkids, then stay close to each particular grandchild. |
My husband and I have developed (using one of those easy
do-it-yourself web pages) a web site for our two granddaughters. We live in Canada and
they in the states. So each week we change the site so that they can tune in to something
new. We do counting, show pictures of their favorite TV characters, put up coloring links
their mom can print out for them to color, send kisses and hugs. Last week the site was
all about frogs. Even found a frog jigsaw puzzle on the internet. It is fun, challenging
for me and enjoyable to them. It is a win/win proposition.
LP Although my grandchildren live fairly close to me & my
husband, we don't get to see one particular set of grandkids too often! One way I have
been keeping in touch is by telephoning every week or every other week, asking about
homework, new teachers, etc. If they have a problem with homework, I help them right over
the phone! If they have trouble reading some words, I have them spell the word and then I
pronounce it for them, also giving a meaning for the word if they don't understand it
properly. Both of these grandchildren have learning disabilities, therefore I am another
person to help them, one who has a little more patience than their parents! We get along
fine this way, & I'm happy to help any way I can. Sometimes pop-pop will bring the two
kids into our house, then I help them with their homework and of course I must
"sign" my name to their workbooks. Anyway, it works!! Z |
