A green-built home is certainly many features that point to a first-rate future for your utility bills. A green-built home is more than green building, though. It can affect almost every aspect of construction.
  • A green-built home is energy-efficient. Energy-efficiency is the first feature of a green-built home.
  • A green-built home is healthy for you, your family, and the earth.. Health is a prime feature.
  • A green-built home is more comfortable.
  • A green-built home will outperform traditional construction.
  • A green-built home is durable.
  • A green-built home is high performing.
  • A green-built home will outsell a home that is not energy-efficient. And the differences in sales prices will grow over time.

A green-built home is understood as one which is built using methods that conserve resources. It is sometimes hard to explain what makes a home a green-built one rather than any other kind.

There is no standard at this time. Time will ultimately decide what features will be in a green-built home. In the meantime, a lot of “greenwashing” will happen--particularly by home builders and home remodelers who push a house as green despite only minimal changes to traditional construction.

Green-built? It's time is coming.

If you are ready for a green-built home, carefully research the standards used by a builder before you contract with him/her.
