Remodel Your Home
Three co-workers are talking about utility bills in the office they share near downtown Dallas in the heat of a Texas summer.
Bruce says, "Gee, I love my home and neighborhood. We have beautiful old trees and a park one block away. Yet my utility bills are astronomical and my son's room is frigid in winter and just boiling this summer. Building a new home across the river seems like the answer for us even though I would be driving more."
Nancy replies, "I live in an apartment near work. I can walk to shops, parks, and the library. My apartments are going condo and I am tempted to buy my unit, even though it is not really comfortable in the summer or the winter. I know the windows leak, but even the walls seem to leak.
Charles muses, "We are renting our home because my wife is subject to transfer. I would love to do something about energy-efficiency but I hate to spend money I will never recover."
Confusion reigns and questions abound when people talk about remodeling versus new homes and how to solve problems of energy-efficiency and utility bills when renting.
When do we do decide to remodel the home we have or replace it with a new home?
How do I know where to start?
When do we remodel rental property?
Is it crazy to buy an older, uncomfortable home?
What energy price will we pay for convenience?
How do we remodel?
How do we make sense of all the green-building information we see and read?
How do we remodel without spending more than we can recover when we sell in the future?
What can we do to make an apartment or rental property more green?
What about energy
And what about windows?
Those questions can be answered with a better understanding of energy-efficiency and green building with all of its costs. Join us in 2008 as we explore green remodeling.
