Mold spores (spores are reproduction method of mold) continually drift through both the indoor and outdoor air.
When they land on a damp spot indoors, they may grow, particularly if there is a continuing moisture source.
There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods. Since there is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment, the only way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture.
North Central Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth have enough moisture that mold is a problem for healthy homes and a force to be reckoned with in building or remodeling a home.
