According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "Molds are part of the natural environment. Molds reproduce by means of tiny spores; the spores are invisible to the naked eye and float through outdoor and indoor air. Mold may begin growing indoors when mold spores land on surfaces that are wet. Dead mold can be just as toxic as live mold. Potential health effects and symptoms associated with mold exposures include allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints. Mold may be more likely to make some people with asthma, allergies, or other breathing problems sick. Severe mold contamination will always require a mold remediation company to clean and remove mold. Normally it is better to err on the side of caution when dealing with mold as mold is quite dangerous. It is also important that mold mitigation work be done correctly. A botched job not only wastes your money but it might also make things worse over time. In some cases, as has been seen often in Texas, the property may even become uninhabitable, particularly when black mold is involved.
