Erectile dysfunction, or ED, is usually defined as the
consistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection that permits satisfactory
intercourse or other sexual activity.
Now enter Viagra®. A touchdown for males and their female partners everywhere. What does Viagra® do? To answer that, first let's look at what causes an erection. Erections begin when the smooth muscles of the vessel walls relax. and the arteries open up The veins which drain the blood then close down and prevent blood from leaking out. Any physical or emotional factor that affects a man's arteries, veins, nerves, or hormones can influence his erections. A man must have an adequate blood pressure to carry blood into the penis, and can have no leaks in the veins of his penis that will allow the blood to escape. He must also allow himself to relax. Viagra® (sildenafil citrate) works by increasing blood flow to the penis. If you take the pill and are sexually stimulated, you get an erection. If you aren't stimulated, nothing happens. In other words, Viagra doesn't come back to haunt you while you're talking to your female boss. Unfortunately, Viagra® is not for everyone. It should not be taken by patients who use drugs known as nitrates, in any form, at any time. Men have reportedly died while using Viagra. |
