Some seniors worry about
privacy in a cohousing community.
Not to worry, though. When seniors want privacy in cohousing, they walk in their homes and
shut the doors.
The second best thing about cohousing is the privacy. When seniors want their privacy, they simply walk in their home, shut the door, and it is private.
In a senior cohousing community, each unit is individually owned. It is a complete home so shutting the door shuts out the world.
These individual homes often have some private outdoor space, too. Thus owners can be private both indoors and outdoors when that privacy is desired.
What is not private?
1. The common space is shared.
2. A general meeting is held on a timely basis (often once a month) to govern the community. At least one member of each household is expected to attend these meetings in most cohousing communities.
3. Meals are shared on some regular basis. However, residents can attend these meals or not, as they desire.
