Most commercially
available solar cells are capable of producing electricity for at least
twenty years without a significant decrease in efficiency. Many solar modules
come with 5, 10, and even 20-year warranties. This speaks highly of their
reliability. Maintenance
of solar panels is normally limited to tightening the electrical
connections and mechanical mountings plus occasional cleaning of the
surface when rain does not do that for you. Snow accumulation is not a
problem in North Texas. Battery systems do require extra maintenance and replacement every five-to-ten years.
If necessary, clean the panels with streaming water from a garden hose. Never walk on or over the panels to clean them. Never use metal, hard, or abrasive cleaning methods. Do not spray water on solar panels when they are very hot.
