1. Entry fees. You don’t always get what you pay for in the singles’ world. Sometimes you get a lot more or a lot less. The higher price might seem better to some who think they will meet a higher "class" of person. Not so.
2. Extras such as a reception or food.
3. Proximity to your home or place of business. Use speed dating to expand your horizons. If you travel to an event, you increase your chances of meeting someone you would not meet at a nearby social group, church, or other event. That’s what you want to do, meet new people, right??
4. If you are really fortunate and live in an area that has speed dating events based on religion, outside interests, or some other preference of yours, go for it. Very few areas are that advanced/competitive, though.
