In addition to all the physical benefits, walking also brings with it a host of social perks, smiling humans, and new friends.

We are social beings and walking offers a way to be social.

Having a regular partner can be a social outlet and a boredom reliever. It also reinforces the commitment to walk.

Try group walking.  Walking with a group can be a good way to keep in touch with old friends or make some new ones.

Plan vacations to include good places to walk. A walking tour will decrease stress, increase health, and offer new friends.

There are walking groups in almost any city. Look in the newspaper or search the internet for a group near you. Many malls have walking groups that increase social interaction and offer you a place to walk in unfriendly weather.

Even walking alone increases your chances of meeting a new neighbor, almost guarantees a returned smile from a child or another adult, and increases your feelings of being in touch with your community.
