5 Fun Backyard Activities for the Whole Family

When summer (finally) arrives, uses your backyard is going to become vital in keeping your little ones entertained during the warmer months.

Not many people, especially children, like to stay inside when the weather is beautiful. It is likely that you and your family will be spending a fairly large amount of time out of doors.

To make your time outside together more memorable and enjoyable, you may want to give these popular backyard activities a try – especially those that are focused on including the entire family!

1. Eat Outside

One activity that everyone enjoys is eating. Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, you may want to consider having your next mean outside.

Especially if you have a barbecue – you and your family can enjoy having mouth-watering food prepared on the grill.

If you don’t happen to have a BBQ, there are plenty of options available to you. You can choose a propane grill, charcoal grill, or a combination of both.

Charcoal grills, by the way, are a less expensive way to go and give your food an amazing smoky flavor.

2. Have a Picnic

You don’t need a barbecue to enjoy eating outside – you can easily prepare your food inside and pack it up for an enjoyable picnic.
Consider whipping some sandwiches, subs, coleslaw, salads, crackers, cookies, pretzels and veggies. Don’t forget to throw in some water to stay hydrated!
Delegate an old blanket to picnic duty and eat your lunch on the warm summer grass.

3. Swimming and Splashing

While eating outside is a great way to spend time in your backyard, it’s not enough to fill the whole day.

If you are looking for a way to spend the whole day in your backyard, swimming is the way to go. Swimming is a favorite summer pastime for kids and adults or all ages.

However, you do have to have a swimming pool to partake in this activity.

Luckily, installing a pool is not the labour-intensive adventure it used to be. Many new models or pools are easy to put together as well as take apart for the winter time.

If you’re not interested in installing a pool, sprinklers and hoses are comparable ways to stay cool in the summer while having fun with water!

4. Backyard Sports

If sports are more your family’s style, you may want to look into purchasing a volleyball net, basketball hoop or soccer net.

While these may be big ticket items, it is likely that you and your children will enjoy them for many years to come. Plus, there are a number of games your children can invent for this equipment beyond its intended purpose.

You can consider these types of items as an investment in your backyard’s fun factor.

5. Backyard Campout

A backyard campout would be the perfect way to end the perfect day.

Backyard camping is great, especially if you have smaller children. There’s less worry about bad weather and bathroom breaks. You’ll be close to home in case something goes wrong.

For a reasonable price, you can purchase a tent and other camping supplies (which you will need less of if you are camping in your backyard).
