A First-Time Parent’s Guide to Carrying a Baby

Becoming a new parent is one of life’s greatest gifts. Not only have you created a new life, but you get to raise and shape that life to help better the world.

With that amount of responsibility, you’d think that your new baby would come with some kind of instruction manual.

Alas, you have to learn everything there is to know about raising a child on your own. That includes learning how to get your baby from point A to point B. Read on to learn about carrying a baby!

Cradle Hold

Cradling a baby is probably the first thing that you think about when it comes to holding a baby. That’s probably because it is one of the most intuitive ways to do it.

You can achieve this hold by placing the baby’s head near your elbow and wrapping your other arm under the baby. This allows you to talk to your baby, feed her, or just gaze at her adorable face.

You might find that it’s easier to help your baby fall asleep when they’re in this particular position.

If you’re trying to teach your children how to hold a baby, then a cradle hold is a great place to start. Have your child sit down and then place the baby in their arms. If you have a newborn, don’t forget to have them take special care with the baby’s head.

Shoulder Hold

A cradle hold is so sweet and a great way to bond with your baby, but it also requires a significant amount of arm strength, and it’s not the most comfortable way to hold your baby as you move around the house. That’s where the shoulder hold comes in.

With this hold, you’ll simply place your baby’s head on your shoulder and support their body with one or both arms, depending upon the age of your baby.

This is a comforting position for you and your baby and it’s easier to get around!

Sling Hold

You’ve got a busy day, but your baby insists that he stay with you at all times. Sounds like it’s time for you to get a sling.

When you’re carrying your baby in a sling, you’re using a combination of fabric and your core strength to support them. You simply wrap the sling around you and place the baby in the sling.

This is a great way to bond with your baby while still accomplishing everything you need to get done during the day.

Convertible Car Seat

Carrying a baby around in your arms sometimes feels like it requires superhero strength. If you’ve got a lot of places to go throughout the day, it may not be feasible to carry your baby around.

That’s where the convertible car seat comes in. You can immediately transfer the car seat to the stroller and back in again in a snap.

Easy peasy!
